Fortunes

Ethan's fortune cookie from a night out last week...
"Listen to the wisdom of the old."
Hmmm...not that I am claiming to be the world's wisest (or oldest) voice in his head...but this kid is so amazingly independent, that when he smashed his cookie open, I found it quite amusing to read what it said! :)
So, listen up, E! Even the cosmic forces of the fortune cookies are telling you to listen to your mother!!!

vocab

Here's Ethan's newest phrase...

Don't reewee yike it!

Meaning 'I don't really like it'.
I love it when he says this - unless it is at dinner time! It is so fun to see him try to verbalize his feelings with methods other than flailing around on the floor and screaming!!! Ahhhh, the joys of raising a two year old!

Handy Hubby

Both Steve and I have a dream of being master woodworkers. We both love the tools and figuring out what exactly to do with them! Plus, if you can actually build something useful - a total bonus, right?!?!

Steve is being a little more pro-active about this dream right now than I am...and here's the proof! I found some plans for this little ottoman/bench/storage chest thingy that promised to stretch our woodworking abilities and provide us with a little piece of furniture that would actually be useful - as long as all the legs measure the same length! :) Steve is diving right in (despite the 500 degree temperatures in our garage after work) and it is finally taking shape!!!

So here's my handy boyfriend last night...and a token picture of me with my staple gun. This picture is only included because it was the only one that showed more of the progress we made! I haven't helped at all on this project (thus the reason the legs WILL all be the same length!), but he was nice enough to let me attempt to be helpful last night during the assembly process!
Thanks Steve...I love working on projects together! Want to do a built-in entertainment center next??? :)

H-O-T

Sometimes I question what I was thinking! It should be against the law for anyone to go through pregnancy during a Houston summer! (Note, this is not meant to be complaining...just a statement of fact! It is hot...very hot, and this belly of mine seems to just add to the hot factor!)
But that being said...things are good...and this little girl is already practicing her flips and jumps to keep up with her brothers. She is definitely made out of the same mold as the others...funny how you can tell these things before they're even born!
The last month of my pregnancy with Garrett, I was on bed-rest and the doctor's monitored him quite closely. The nurses would always laugh at just how incredibly active he was - he was NEVER still - EVER!!! Ethan was the same way, and so is this next one! Maybe one day we'll have our own soccer team or something! :)

Why do I do this?

So, an amazing friend of mine is putting together a book club for some of the boys in the area and Garrett was invited to attend. They are reading a few books from the Childhood of Famous Americans Series. (Which are GREAT by the way, if you're looking for some new reading material for your kiddos!!!)

Today is their first club meeting and we were asked to bring a few snacks for the boys to enjoy. Easy right...just grab some crackers and apples or something and call it good! But no...this little voice in the back of my head says "do something different!!!" Darn that voice! Doesn't it know that I really shouldn't attempt creative things - especially when it comes to food! But no, against my better judgement, I voice an idea to Garrett...who gets sooooo excited about the new snack that there is no turning back!

So here is our attempt to make a sailboat out of rice crispy treats. The boy, Benjamin Franklin was a great sailor. He loved boats and worked hard to learn everything there was to know about sailing and tacking and anything related. He and a friend salvaged an old boat and named it 'Glad'. So...logically, a fleet of rice crispy sailboats would be the perfect choice of snack at our first Patriot's Club meeting!

Why, oh why do I do this? (and really, why do I admit to the world my lame-o ideas via the blog???) But, Garrett loved them, though they really seemed much grander in my head than they actually turned out! But they got his stamp of approval and at least they'll taste good - can you go wrong with marshmallows and rice crispies?!?! I think not!!! And if they really are too ridiculous to munch on at the club meeting today...I packed some cheese sticks and juice boxes just in case! And rest assured, we surely won't be asked to do snacks again for a VERY long time!!! :)

TRY IT!!!

Okay...for those of you in the neighborhood - you HAVE to try Chrissy's Coolers. It's this new little shop that just opened up in the area (it's where Roma's used to be - over by the bakery and Manuel's). They serve gelato, italian ice, sorbets, funnel cakes and are soooooo tasty! I met Chrissy at the park a few weeks ago and she couldn't be nicer! Give her a try...and I promise you'll be going back for more! I told Steve he was welcome to stop on his way home from work anytime and grab us a treat for after dinner! :) And if you want my advice...try the chocolate hazelnut gelato...you'll be in heaven!

As Promised...

So, a few dear people in my life have been bugging me for a prego pic. Don't say I didn't warn you! :) Thanks to Garrett my photographer, here is your belly-shot of me at about 6 months! :)
