Olivia turned to me while doing her hair this morning and the following conversation began...
O - I really want to be a mom when I grow up, but I really DON'T want to either. I don't know what to do.
Me - (laughing inside already because she has already told me a million times how unfair it is that girls have to change their names...AND have the babies, so I'm expecting a repeat of that). Oh yeah, how come?
O - Number one.
Me - (thinking...wow, she has a list this time...this is gonna be good)
O - Yes. Number one, I want to be the mom 'cuz I REALLY want to be the boss.
Me - The boss??????
O - (looking up at me all innocently and completely oblivious to the irony of her statement) Yes. The boss. All the time.
Me - Uh okay...not sure about that...but okay.
O - Number 2, I don't really want to carry babies around all day. Because I want to be carried still. So, I just don't know if I should be a mom or not. (Then looks up at me with a look that says "well there you have my full and completely justified/rational list.)
Me - Wow. Great thoughts. We'll have to think about it, huh??? Good thing you've got some time to decide, because I think you'll still want to do it. Being a mom makes you pretty happy...even if you don't get carried that often.
Secretly, I'm now totally hoping that she has twins and has to carry two babies around every day! That'll show her who's really the boss in this whole motherhood thing!!!
