8.5

Garrett celebrated his half birthday this past weekend.  I know, I know - kinda a random thing to celebrate...but when your real birthday is just a week away from Christmas, it's nice to find another reason to celebrate later in the year!  So July 3rd is a big day in our house as well!  :)

Chocolate cake...balloons galore...and cheeseburgers for dinner!  It doesn't get much better than that.  Unless you take into account the bb-gun that Steve bought for him!  :)  Let's just pray that all eyeballs stay accounted for!

Happy (half) Birthday, Garrett!!!  You are one amazing kiddo and our family would not be complete without you!  :)

Explanation

Sorry for my lack of posting...

This has taken over our lives, once again!  And we are LOVING every sweltering, super-hot minute of it!  :)

Logical

I asked Garrett to try on his swim flippers from last year to find out if I needed to buy new ones for swim team this season.  While I was waiting to hear the verdict...I look out my window and see him out on the trampoline...in his flippers!

Crazy child!!!  He loved it and had a great time making up new games and trying to find out the best way to jump with huge feet!  Never a dull moment at our house!

Pinewood Derby

Garrett had his first Pinewood Derby at Scouts last week!  He had a great time designing and creating his car.

Third place seemed to be our magic spot...much to Garrett's dismay.  He came in third in almost every race!  The poor kid wanted to win so badly!  He did amazing though and found out afterwards that his car raced better and faster backwards.  :)  Who would have thought!?!?!?

spying

Just now as I was tucking Garrett into bed...

Garrett - Hey Mom?
Me - Yeah?
Garrett - I don't like it when you come up and check on me after I'm asleep.  Don't do it anymore, okay?
Me (totally confused) -  Huh?
Garrett - Just don't check on me anymore at night, okay?
Me - I don't get it...do I wake you up when I come in here?
Garrett - No.  It just feels like you're spying on me.

Now I'm going to lay in bed at night...wondering if my children are sleeping okay...if their covers are pulled up...if they're about to fall off the bed...if they just need one more kiss on the cheek???  All because my little ones are paranoid and think I spy on them!

another one 'bites' the dust

Garrett came home today with one less tooth in his cute little mouth.  :)

He was pretty excited, until he came in and informed me that he now looks 'weird' when he smiles.  Ahhhh.....the joys of growing up!

Choose the Right???

I was just cleaning out Garrett's church stuff, and in light of yesterday's post, I thought I'd do a Garrett version.

Plain and simple...and I guess he get's his point across.  Do not CTW (or Choose the Wrong)?!?!?  Leave it to my kid to change up the well established CTR (choose the right) shield!!!

And yes...just to further expain how "Garrett" this paper was, I had to unfold it from it's paper airplane state to actually read what was inside!  SOOOOO typical...anything paper in the hands of my child gets folded into some sort of flying object.  Luckily he's well-behaved enough (well usually!!!), that they aren't often thrown...until he walks in the house.  Then it's a free-for-all!

First Day...catch-up

So, I forgot to post a pic of Garrett on his first day of school - 2nd Grade!!!  Here he is for documentation sake...well that, and he's pretty cute!

Garrett's Photography Skills

Garrett was playing photographer...and managed to capture us all in one shot!  He's getting pretty good...I can't even get all three of my ever-moving subjects in one shot!  :)

in case you were wondering...

It was only 8:08 a.m. when Ethan started asking if Garrett was coming home soon!

toothless grin

Garrett lost another tooth a few weeks ago.

He's sporting that cute...no front teeth smile right now that just makes me smile every time I see it!

Oh, how I love this toothless boy!  :)

summer activity #57

What better way than this to get through yet another rainy afternoon???  (and yes, I mean the WHOLE afternoon...or at least all of naptime - which is essentially the same thing in mom-language!!!)

But really, Garrett is a pretty good banker!  It's fun to watch his little brain trying to figure out the sums when I hand him the coveted $500 bill and ask for my change!  :)  Aren't I mean!?!?!?

My Swimmer

We are nearing the end of our swim team season...and I just had to share a couple of pictures of our little guy!  He has improved a TON, tried something new (and scary for him!), and grown up a bit - all goals of mine for the season, so I'm happy!  He had a blast, loves to swim and got to hang out with his friends - so he's happy!

So here's my handsome swimmer...seriously, this child makes my heart happy!

just keep swimming...

This is the reason for my lack of blogging (or lack of anything these days!)...

Garrett is doing swim team....so in other words, the whole family is doing swim team!  :)  We are loving it...but boy are we busy!

piece of cheese

I just asked Garrett if he was okay with something, and this is the response I got...

"Yep Mom!!!!  I'm as good as a mouse with a big piece of cheese in front of him!!!!!!!"

Well okay then...I guess that means he's pretty good.

dreams of tennis

Garrett started tennis lessons this past week and though quite hesitant at first, he completely LOVES it!  After his first class, he informed me that he was going to dream about being a professional tennis player that night.  Aim high my little star athlete!  :)  But we better keep practicing that swing!

And Ethan is following right behind his brother (as always!).  They both had a racquet in hand all weekend and chased tennis balls all over the house and yard!

day 100

So, to recap the much anticipated big 100th day of school...

Garrett decorated a t-shirt with 100 googly eyes!  Did you know they made colored eyes???  My favorite part...he jingled a bit when he walked...soooo cute!  My other favorite part...Garrett loves the song "I always feel like somebody's watching me" from the Geico commercials and also from his PE class.  So, this song was sung more than a few times that day!

The first thing Garrett says to me as I pick him up that day from school..."Mom?  What super fun things do you have planned for today?"   Uhhhhh, how do I politely tell the kid that I hadn't planned a single thing!  100 days away from me isn't something I thought to celebrate...maybe I should celebrate the 100th day of summer break instead!  Needless to say, some quick improvisation was in store!

So this is what we made for dinner that night.

Spaghetti with '100' meatballs and '100' breadsticks.  I threatened to give him 100 green beans to go along with it...but he decided that one scoop was enough!

So there you have it...a big day filled with hundreds of fun things!

lots to do!

This past weekend, Garrett was trying to explain to Ethan the ins-and-outs of Groundhog's Day.  A funny conversation in itself...trying to explain the logistics of how a groundhog named Phil gets so much say-so in our life is pretty funny...especially when explained to a 2-year old!  After their conversation, I was brought into the mix.  I thought I would be clarifying Garrett's claims to the all-knowing furry little guy, but this is how our conversation went...

Garrett - Hey Mom!  What day is Groundhog's Day on???

Me  - Hmmmm, I think it's on Tuesday.

Garrett - (letting out the most frustrated/overwhelmed sigh ever)  AAAHHHH....UGGGGHHHHH!  NOOOOOO!!!  Tuesday?!?!?!?

Me - (honestly, quite bewildered by his sudden change of mood!) Uh, yeah.  It's Tuesday.  Is that okay?

Garrett - (openly crying now!)  Mom!  Tuesday is already so busy!!!!

Me - (still totally confused) what???

Garrett - (still whimpering!) You know...100th day of school?!?!?!?  And now Groundhog Day???  It's just too much!

So there's a look into my completely over-scheduled 7 year old!  Poor baby!
