Make-shift Chair

Ethan loves to pull out the oats from the pantry and carry them around the kitchen. Yesterday he seemed to think that they made the perfect little seat. And I have to admit, his make-shift chair fits his little legs perfectly...a fact which seemed to make him EXTREMELY happy!

My Boys!

This is the new favorite past time in our house. The boys LOVE to go for a ride and they both request it every chance they can get! Ethan's just learning how to hold on and actually ride while Garrett's rides tend to end up a bit more like a buckin' bronco ride instead! I love my boys!

Cool Car

I LOVE opening Garrett's folder everyday after school and looking over all his stuff that he brings home. Here's a copy of one of his papers he wrote during one of his rotations. Isn't he so funny?!?!?

Addicted

My parents came to visit over Halloween and we had a great time! While I have so much to post regarding their trip and the things that we did with them...this post is dedicated to a funny conversation I had with Garrett just as we were driving away from the airport after dropping my mom off (my dad left a week earlier).

As we were pulling away from the drop-off area, Garrett notices a 'smoking' area and is quite intrigued as we aren't around smoking people all that often. He asks what the area is for and why there are only certain areas for smoking and about a million other questions as is his usual habit. I start in with my explanation of the designated smoking area and explain it's benefit of keeping all the dangerous smoke in one area so that we all don't have to breathe it. He then asks the inevitable...why do people smoke? "Hmmm, I'm not quite sure...but once people start doing it, sometimes it's really hard to stop...their bodies hurt if they don't have it...it's called being addicted" and my explanation goes on and on. He seems to accept the answer and we go on our way.

Heart-wrenching sobs are heard more often than not from the backseat as we try to find something fun to do to take our mind off our necessary errands and off the fact that Grandma is not here anymore. He does calm down a bit and can function normally (well as normally as a 5 year old can do while doing errands with his mom!) But then, as we're driving home about 1 1/2 hours later, Garrett starts BAWLING again. (Seriously, it breaks my heart to hear how sad he is!) But this time, through his sobbing, he chokes out the words (and you can hear how deeply he believes what he's trying to say), "I think I am addicted to Grandma! My stomach is hurting without her here!!!" Oh, my poor babe...we're all hurting to have her leave!

So thanks again Mom and Dad for coming to visit. We loved every minute of it - well except the good-bye part! :)

reactivation

I think it probably seems that I have been lacking in the church attendance department lately, I honestly think it has been months since I went to sunday school! But now that Ethan is healthy and (almost) officially 18 months old (next week is his 18-month mark!), I think church is going to be a lovely place to go again! No more crying in the hallways (I won't tell you if I'm referring to him or me!), no entire bags full of 3 hours worth of snacks, or bags so heavy from all the books and quiet toys I carry around each week, no more wasting gas driving around with a boy whose eyes are so droopy that he can't keep them open any longer and all he seems to be able to do is scream or sleep...anyways, you catch my drift.
But today it all changed! Ethan officially went to nursery! Cue the hallelujah chorus! Seriously, we walked in and Ethan looked around the room taking everything in, and then looked up at me with a look that clearly said "WHY HAVE YOU NOT BROUGHT ME HERE BEFORE?!?!?!" I think he has been as frustrated as I have these past few months with the hall wandering and constant shushing! Man, it's tough being a baby!

Happy Halloween!

Okay, so I know it's late...but here are a few pics of the boys in their costumes. Sorry for the lapse in posting for those of you who have been calling and asking for pics (Dana!) :)

Garrett and his good buddy planned months ago to dress up as The Mario Brothers - Mario and Luigi! And honestly, I have to admit...they were the cutest little pair I've ever seen! :)

Ethan ended up going as a turtle. Think the turtles from the Super Mario Nintendo games - though it really just looked like any old turtle - well, any ol' CUTE turtle!
Here's a back-shot so you can see the turtle shell!

I woke up one morning envisioning how I was going to make this turtle costume...and while it is kinda random, it was really fun to make! :)
