day 100

So, to recap the much anticipated big 100th day of school...

Garrett decorated a t-shirt with 100 googly eyes!  Did you know they made colored eyes???  My favorite part...he jingled a bit when he walked...soooo cute!  My other favorite part...Garrett loves the song "I always feel like somebody's watching me" from the Geico commercials and also from his PE class.  So, this song was sung more than a few times that day!

The first thing Garrett says to me as I pick him up that day from school..."Mom?  What super fun things do you have planned for today?"   Uhhhhh, how do I politely tell the kid that I hadn't planned a single thing!  100 days away from me isn't something I thought to celebrate...maybe I should celebrate the 100th day of summer break instead!  Needless to say, some quick improvisation was in store!

So this is what we made for dinner that night.  

 

Spaghetti with '100' meatballs and '100' breadsticks.  I threatened to give him 100 green beans to go along with it...but he decided that one scoop was enough!

So there you have it...a big day filled with hundreds of fun things!

lots to do!

This past weekend, Garrett was trying to explain to Ethan the ins-and-outs of Groundhog's Day.  A funny conversation in itself...trying to explain the logistics of how a groundhog named Phil gets so much say-so in our life is pretty funny...especially when explained to a 2-year old!  After their conversation, I was brought into the mix.  I thought I would be clarifying Garrett's claims to the all-knowing furry little guy, but this is how our conversation went...

Garrett - Hey Mom!  What day is Groundhog's Day on???

Me  - Hmmmm, I think it's on Tuesday.

Garrett - (letting out the most frustrated/overwhelmed sigh ever)  AAAHHHH....UGGGGHHHHH!  NOOOOOO!!!  Tuesday?!?!?!?

Me - (honestly, quite bewildered by his sudden change of mood!) Uh, yeah.  It's Tuesday.  Is that okay?

Garrett - (openly crying now!)  Mom!  Tuesday is already so busy!!!!

Me - (still totally confused) what???

Garrett - (still whimpering!) You know...100th day of school?!?!?!?  And now Groundhog Day???  It's just too much!  

So there's a look into my completely over-scheduled 7 year old!  Poor baby!

I love this kid...

time flies...

Olivia is growing up so quickly - too quickly for me!  Funny to say since she started out so very small and we were wishing for months for her to grow up so she could come home with us...but now, it seems like it is going by entirely too fast!

She started rolling over this week and LOVES it!  I put her down and within 5 seconds...she is on her belly and seems completely thrilled at her new skill!  She usually has no patience with tummy time...but if she is the one who initiates it, she'll stay there for hours!  :)

We also started with rice cereal this week too...and she can't get enough of it!  Lately, when we hold her while we're eating, she'll usually start smacking her cute little lips and chewing right along with us...so I figured she might be ready to try.

She laughs and smiles constantly - especially anytime she catches a glimpse of her brothers!  And funny enough, if she sees her brothers AND sees that they have a ball...then she laughs hysterically.  She loves watching them bounce or throw a ball!  

She really is our little miracle and we could not possibly love her any more than we do!

Boys will be boys!

Seriously, what makes boys such 'boys'?  I walked into the toy room the other day and glanced at the boy's new easel.  On it was the following chart...

Yes, you read it right..."G and E's Burp Chart"!

Come on!!!  Is this really necessary?!?!?  Is this honestly something that needs to be documented???Where do they even come up with this stuff?  And should I be worried about the crazy up-bringing of my poor 2-year old???

I don't know why I blog about all this...maybe I should pretend to have the all-polite boys who never burp and then laugh about it.  Then maybe people would believe I am a good mom, whose kids are perfect!!!  Okay who am I kidding...that will never be us and I love it!  These boys keep me laughing all day long!  And, if burping is my biggest worry, then I think I have it pretty good!

And just to add, here is part of the drawing that was pushed out of the way for the above burp chart.  I should have taken the picture before he drew all over it...I think this cute alien ended up giving another alien on the corner of the page the laser-eye...and I'm sure a full-scale invasion took place after that!  Thus the scribbling and extra lines!  I love the things that  Garrett comes up with!

I have a dream...

Garrett had a rough night tonight.  Thursdays are always a little tough for us, as the long week seems to always catch up with him by Thursday...and there is usually a little more drama around here than usual.

Tonight though, after he was tucked into bed, he asked for a snack (a constant battle in our house!).  The boys will seriously get down from dinner on some of those late, crazy dinner-time nights, go get their pj's on, and then insist on a snack before bed.  AAAAHHHH!  Why do I even bother with cooking dinner some nights?!?!?  But I digress...

Anyway, tonight poor Garrett asked for his snack after he had already been sent (and tucked into) bed.  When we told him no...he started in on how it wasn't fair....E had eaten after dinner...he was starving to death...(and on and on!).  As it was already late, Steve told him to go to just go to bed and that he wasn't worried about being fair at the moment.  He was more concerned with getting his already tired boy into bed.

And here was Garrett's reply...

"Dad?  You know Martin Luther King?  He had a plan for everyone to be equal.  He wanted everyone to be treated fair.  You are not treating me fairly!"

Hmmm...how do you respond to that one.  Besides with one last hug and "That's not what the great Dr. King was intending...now go to sleep!"

Ahhh, the joys of raising a little smarty-pants!

6 months old!

Today is Olivia's 6 month birthday.  She has brought so much joy and happiness into our lives and we are all completely in love with her.

Here she is in all her 2 pound 10 ounce glory...(well, probably more like 5 lbs in this picture!)

And now today...weighing in at 12 pounds 4 ounces!

Happy half-birthday sweet girl!  We love you!
